this post gets this much traffic. This is freaking hilarious...Maybe the PETA members should volunteer their services and pack animals for the night. Maybe we should hire counselors for the donkeys to make sure that they are not unduly mentally harmed. Or maybe we should tell PETA to blow it out there...well...you know...

As long as they aren't being physically abused or in pain then no, I think it's fine.

Dramaqueen, are you saying that the donkeys are suffering from mental abuse? That they are humiliated? I hope you aren't and I'm just misunderstanding your posts.

Is this poll just a test to see if people would argue about anything?

Few if any who use animals in their business want them to be hurt. Whether it's rodeo or horse racing or weed-eating goats....the animals generate income for their owners and the longer they are able to be healthy, the more money they'll earn. As one who grew up in ranching country, I saw thais fact at an early age. I know that most who work with animals are true animal lovers. They understand the animals in a way that most animal rights folks never can. If PETA members are really upset about the donkey basketball, perhaps they could offer to trade places with the animals, since the money being raised is for a good cause. I mean, the players are simply looking for an ass to ride, aren't they?

How about putting their pets through a grueling dog show? Iditerod?

Submitted by HappyPatty on November 22, 2008 - 6:51pm.

But at least the jockeys are not lard asses. I have never seen a fat jock have you ?.

Submitted by dedanann on November 24, 2008 - 7:30am.

Donkeys have been domesticated and bred for carrying loads for at least 5000 years by humans, I think they can handle a little basketball game. No it is not abuse.

When I come back as an animal, please let me be a race horse, a sled dog, a show dog, a show horse, or even a rodeo bull. For at most 15 minutes work, you are pampered, groomed, fed, cared for and then when your retire from these tough jobs, you get to live out your life being cared for, pampered, & loved. Tough Life. Oh and the other thing....these animals enjoy what they are doing. Retired show dogs love to go to shows. Fact, not fiction.

Submitted by tokyoev on November 21, 2008 - 11:06pm.

you don't want to be a race horse...you break a leg, they kill you...no chance of re-hab...you are worth more as a viable competitor than a broke critter needing rehab...so, they cut losses so to speak...

The plight of these poor animals is horrifying. I wish I could adopt them all.

All of you morons who dress up your dog, let it ride in your purse, give your pets "vacations", and pamper them are just plain nuts. They are not human. I'll be damned if an animal is given more rights than humans. It is insanity! The freaking pathetic thing is, these people truly believe they are right! lol. I mean, some people think oh, fish have feelings, we don't want to hurt them (by fishing). Holy crap! lol. Morons to the nth degree.

Submitted by aislander on November 21, 2008 - 11:15am.

...windows wide open, in the middle of winter, so their dogs can hang their heads out into the wind. Unbelievable. Of course, those boombox car guys do the same thing, the better for us to appreciate their bad taste in music, but I don't know whether to equate them to the dogs or to their indulgent owners. Combination of both, I think...

Nice well thought out response lol. Look if being a "jerk" means thinking humans and dogs/cats/donkeys/horses/etc... are not on the same level, then yes I will happily admit to being a "jerk". Funny how the definition of a word changes, huh. lol. Animals are inferior, period.

You bleeding heart animalist, you care "more about the animals" than men/woman & Children whom live on the streets, back alleys, and in their cars day & night!
YOU ought to be ashamed!

I suppose when the donkey that was hauling gold 'outta them thar hills' way back when (for those of you are wealthy-I'd assume many----because you have nothing better to do with your lives except snivel)........this was OK?

Go get your Latte, and head on down the road................
Your just like the war protestor that wants no wars, but don't want to volunteer, nor would defend this country if need be, what a excuse for a human being! :-(

Submitted by pjh961 on November 21, 2008 - 10:54am.

Why would anyone believe PETA has the best intrests of animals?
They are a terrorist organization.
While on the surface they appear to be for animal welfare nothing could be farther from the truth. They do not rescue animals, they seize them and murder, or release to the wild animals that have been born in captivity and are doomed to die with said release. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a group that complains bitterly when animals die accidentally in horse races or intentionally in slaughterhouses, killed more than 90 percent of the adoptable animals in its care during 2007.
Please do not give them credibility, they have not earned it!

Submitted by witchiwoman on November 21, 2008 - 9:30am.

I'll pose another: Is it abuse to ride a polo pony in a polo match? Is it abuse to ask a teenager to go rake leaves? Please. Donkeys are bred tough. Tough. They carry two and three times their own weight as pack animals in the mountains under far more perilous conditions. As long as they're not playing on a regular floor that could cause slips and falls I would not call it abuse at all. If it's on turf, like polo, I bet the donkeys would come out on top! LOL.
.
IF THEY ARE PLAYING ON A REGULAR BASKETBALL FLOOR IT WOULD BE ASKING FOR BROKEN LEGS.

Submitted by patty46 on November 21, 2008 - 9:37am.

there is no need for them to be used as entertainment for people !. let the ball players do that leave the animals out of it. How would humans like to go back to roman times and gladiator fighting as that was amusing for people in those times. I like to think we have gotten past using living things to amuse us.

Submitted by aislander on November 21, 2008 - 9:35am.

Really.

Submitted by patty46 on November 21, 2008 - 9:41am.

rubber shoes...LOL...I know this, but how would you like to ware them and have some lard ass riding you ? I think its very insensitive to think in this day and age we stoop to this level for entertainment.

Submitted by nanook on November 21, 2008 - 9:10am.

It takes a real jackass to call donkey basket ball abuse . . .

Submitted by patty46 on November 21, 2008 - 9:14am.

to think its not abuse ! or a old dumb old goat.

Submitted by poppop on November 21, 2008 - 9:05am.

I think the abuse is forcing these beautiful beasts to perform under bright lights, with loud crowds, and asses riding & kicking them. These are gentle animals, hard working animals. Please dont make a circus of them!

Submitted by tokyoev on November 21, 2008 - 8:16am.

is abuse...no more riding horses...no more riding elephants...shoot, let's broaden it out from there...let all animals run free!!! or maybe, just maybe this is another really stupid idea and poll...I can remember watching donkey basketball 20 years ago...and no animals were hurt in the game...except the guy who fell off the donkey....

Submitted by letsworkitout on November 20, 2008 - 9:18pm.

3 votes for animal abuse, and yet not one of them is willing to post how it is animal abuse or at the very least engage in a discussion. Probably because they know their arguments won't stand up to reason.

Submitted by patty46 on November 21, 2008 - 8:45am.

How would you like it if some lard ass was riding you????. its animal abuse when the little creatures have to risk weight and slippery floors to amuse humans in some freaky event .

Submitted by Touchytouchy on November 21, 2008 - 10:23am.

Why don't humans ride each others backs while playing basketball and see how amusing that is for animals to watch. Even animals think humans are stupid. Donkeys are intended for man's use, not abuse or entertainment. People have gotten so far away from the original intention of animal labor and in their insanity, they now stoop to using them for companionship (e.g. beastiality) and entertainment. How desperate do and low will humans slither before they begin to understand that even animals have rights? Although God made humans more intelligent - some sure don't act like it! No wonder the world is in the horrible shape it's in and it's only getting worse!!!

Submitted by mcgyver on November 21, 2008 - 10:31am.

The Iditerod or horse racing or dog racing. Hell, there have been horse races since the days of Ghengis Khan. Remember your history? Humans have been used for sport for centuries, all of todays athletes are willing participants. Are they too abused but just don't know it?

Submitted by Touchytouchy on November 21, 2008 - 10:40am.

humans have a choice, animals are at the mercy (or lack thereof) of humans. Besides, unfortunately, humans get paid millions for for acting like asses - duh!

Submitted by patty46 on November 21, 2008 - 10:39am.

HUMANS HAVE FREE WILL AND HAVE NO natural enemies but each other..poor animals have no choice but to endure the rights of horrible peoples fantasies.

Submitted by sfniner08 on November 21, 2008 - 11:02am.

Oh yes, "peoples fantasies", are you high? Riding on a donkey is a fantasy? So, would be all pissed off if people are just riding the donkey? Is it because it is on a basketball court? Where do YOU draw the line?

Submitted by mcgyver on November 21, 2008 - 10:46am.

Who is high now? Animals have no choice by design. God made it that way. If you don't believe in God then how about natural selection? Survival of the fittest? I'm sorry but I can't empathize with the animals, they are here for our pleasure (no, not that way) and our convenience. We are the dominant species and therefore it is our job to dominate. I'm in tune with my inner caveman.

Submitted by Touchytouchy on November 21, 2008 - 10:56am.

only took what they needed and used out of necessity. They also put back so that the cycle of life (all life - ie, plant, beast and man) could continue in the natural sphere of things. Cavemen weren't nearly as animalistic as humans have become today. (Shaking my head) "And these are the minds that defend the country".

Submitted by mcgyver on November 21, 2008 - 11:07am.

I'd bet there'd be cave drawings of donkey (or dinosaur) ball games. LOL They only took what they needed because (like some posters here) they were very simple minded. If you remember one thing out of everything I wrote today, remember this: All things that live must kill or use up something else in order to survive. You could be the most peace loving person in the world but you still destroy things in your daily activity. Oh and this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ets0xkUk17Y is for patty.
